Masking Your “Stink”

They may run away from your hunting area if they sense your scent, so it is highly recommended that you conceal it well.

Human body odor is produced when bacteria start feeding on organic matter such as tissues, sweat, and cells, and then increasing their number in a moist environment with warm temperature. If you wash these bacteria away, as well as the odorous byproducts they produce, you can remove your body odor for a definite period of time.

To do this, you can use non-scented soaps that are not infused with extra non-cleaning substances, such as perfumes, oils, and moisturizers. Remember to thoroughly scrub your head and armpits.

Just to make sure, you should also spray yourself with scent-suppressing agents that will neutralize the bacteria’s odorous byproducts when you enter the forest.

Another technique to mask your scent is by wearing the right clothing. Some under layers have anti-microbial properties infused in their fabric to eliminate bacteria. Carbon-infused apparel, meanwhile, ensures that your scent won’t escape from your body.

But for the most careful prey, old-school scent-disguising is also useful. It may include crushing and rubbing some locally-common herb on your clothes or using mud and smear some on your clothing and gear.

Shooting the Deer with One Shot

Even though you are just a beginner, you should always aim to kill your prey with just one shot. Whether it is just recreational hunting or you want to do it for a living, it is important that you do not miss your target’s most vital points. It will cost you an awful lot of time, effort, and money to chase down a wounded deer that is running for its life. Even though it is on the brink of death, a big game such as an elk or moose can still run for miles. They might even leave your hunting zone and it would be trouble to chase game off your permit’s allocated area. What’s worse is that they might encounter a herd of other deer and scare them off. If you want to kill an animal instantly, these are the vital parts that you should aim for:

Brain: A direct hit to its brain will ensure that it will die in a matter of seconds. Moreover, a headshot means that there is more meat for you. Unfortunately, the brain is a very small target, making it easy for beginners to miss.

High Shoulder: A speeding bullet can snap a spine and shut off all of the deer’s body functions. Unfortunately, it can destroy a lot of meat in the process.

Heart and Lungs: This is highly recommended for beginners because you do not need to be too accurate with your shot. The bullet will cause a blood hemorrhage, making it easier for you to follow its blood trail if it manages to escape.

Neck: An accurate shot to the neck can short circuit an animal’s nervous system without destroying a lot of meat. However, this vital point is very small, so you need to be extremely accurate.

Joints: If
